clothes cloth clothing	clothes統指各種衣服，用複數動詞； cloth指布，為不可數名詞； clothing為服裝的總稱，指一件衣服用a piece of, an article of
incident accident	incident指小事件 accident指不幸的事件 ex. He was killed in the accident.
family house home	family指家庭成員； house指房子、住宅 home指家，包括住處和家人 ex. My family is a happy one.
sound voice noise	sound指自然界各種各樣聲音 voice指人的嗓音 noise指噪音 ex. I hate the loud noise outside.
photo picture drawing	photo指用照相機拍攝的照片 picture可指相片、圖片、電影 drawing指畫的畫 ex. Let's go and see a good picture.
vocabulary word	vocabulary指辭彙，一個人擁有的單字數 word指具體的單字 ex. He has a large vocabulary.
population people	population指人口、人數 people指具體的人 ex. China has a large population.
weather climate	weather指一天內具體的天氣狀況 climate指長期的氣候狀況 ex. The climate here is not good for you.
road street path way	road指具體的公路、馬路 street指街道 path指小路、小徑 way指道路、途徑 ex. take this road, in the streets, ex. show me the way to the museum
course subject	course指課程(可包括多門科目) subject指科目(具體的學科) ex. a summer course
custom (+ to do) habit (+ of doing)	custom指傳統風俗、習俗、也可指生活習慣 habit指生活習慣, 習慣成自然 ex. I've got the habit of drinking a lot.
cause (+ of sth./doing sth.) reason (+ for sth./ doing sth.)	cause指造成某一事實或現象的直接原因 reason用來解釋某種現象或結果的理由 ex. the reason for being late
exercise exercises practice	exercise指運動、鍛鍊 (不可數) exercises指練習(可數) practice指反復做的練習 ex. Practice makes perfect.
class lesson	class課、班級或全體學生 lesson課、課文 ex. lesson 6; class 5;
speech talk lecture	speech指在公共場所所做經過準備的較正式演說 talk指日常生活中的一般談話、講話 lecture指學術性演講 ex. a series of lecture on...
officer official	officer指部隊的軍官 official指政府官員 ex. an army officer
work job	work工作(不可數) job工作(可數) ex. a good job
couple pair	couple主要指人或動物 pair多指由兩部分組成的東西 ex. a pair of trousers
country nation state land	country指版圖、疆域 nation指人民、國民、民族 state指政府、政體 land指國土、國家 ex. The whole nation was sad at the news.
cook cooker	cook指廚師 cooker指廚具 ex. He is a good cook.
damage damages	damage不可數名詞，指損害、損失 damages複數形式，指賠償金 ex. $900 damages
police policeman	police警方, 員警的總稱，接複數動詞 policeman指某個具體的警員 ex. The police are questioning everyone in the house.
problem question	problem常和困難相連，前面的動詞常為: think about, solve, raise question常和疑問相連，多和ask, answer連用
man a man	man指人類 a man指一個男人 ex. Man will conquer nature.
chick chicken	chick小雞 chicken小雞, 亦可指雞肉 ex. The chicken is delicious.
telegram telegraph	telegram電報(具體的) telegraph電報(抽象的) ex. a telegram, by telegraph
trip journey travel voyage	trip短期的旅途 journey稍長的旅途 travel最常用來代表旅途 voyage海上航行 ex. a three-day trip
sport game	sport多指戶外的遊戲或娛樂活動, 如打球、打獵、賽馬等; game指決定勝負旳遊戲，通常有一套規則 ex. His favorate sport is swimming.
price prize	price指價格 prize指獎、獎品、獎金 ex. win the first prize, The price if high/low.
a number of the number of	a number of指許多，加複數名詞及動詞 the number of指...的數目，加單數動詞 ex. The number of students is increasing
in front of in the front of	in front of指某一範圍外的前面 in the front of指某一範圍內的前面 ex. In the front of the room sits a boy.
of the day of a day	of the day指每一天的、當時的、當代的 of a day指暫時的、不長久的 ex. a famous scientist of the day
three of us the three of us	three of us我們(不止三個)中的三個 the three of us我們三個(就三個人) ex. The three of us-Tom, Jack and I went to the cinema.
by bus on the bus	by bus表手段、方式，不用冠詞 on the bus表範圍 ex. They went there by bus.
for a moment for the moment	for a moment指片刻、一會兒 for the moment暫時、一時 ex. Thinking for a moment, he agreed.
next year the next year	next year將來時間 the next year過去將來時間狀態 ex. He said he would go abroad the next year.
mor than a year more than one year	mor than a year一年多 more than one year超過一年(兩年或三年等)
take advice take the(one's) advice	take advice徵求意見 take the(one's) advice接受忠告 ex. He refuses to take the advice and failed again.
take air take the air	take air傳播、走漏 take the air到戶外去、散步 ex. We take the air every day.
in a word in words	in a word總之，一言以蔽之 in words口頭上 ex. In a word, you are right.
in place of in the place of	in place of代替 in the place of在...地方 ex. A new building is built in the place of the old one.
in secret in the secret	in secret秘密地、暗自地、偷偷地 in the secret指知道內情、知道秘密 ex. My mother was in the secret from the beginning.
a girl one girl	a girl可泛指所有女孩 one girl指一個女孩 ex. Can one girl carry such a big box?
take a chair take the chair	take a chair相當於sit down, 坐下 take the chair開始開會
go to sea by sea by the sea	go to sea當海員、出航 by sea乘船、經由海路 by the sea在海邊 ex. go by sea
the doctor and teacher the doctor and the teacher	the doctor and teacher指一人身兼醫生及老師 the doctor and the teacher兩個人,1醫生,1老師
in office in the office	in office在職的 in the office在辦公室的 ex. He is in office, not out of office.
in bed on the bed	in bed臥在床上 on the bed在床上 ex. The book is on the bed. He is in bed.
in charge of in the cahrge of	in charge of管理、負責照料 in the cahrge of由...照料 ex. He is in charge of the matter. The matter is in the charge of her.
